Following the release of some great Gene Clark and post Elektra Love rarities, the very cool American re-issue label High Moon Records have dug at a bit deeper into the vaults and unearthed a couple of previously unreleased gems. THE POINTER SISTERS were one of the most successful female groups the music industry has seen with 13 top 20 singles and 8 top 40 albums shared between the US and UK pop charts. The 1983 release of BREAK OUT saw the group reach the peak of their commercial success. This was the group’s sixth album.
Sorry, didn't realize extra tracks that were previously available are not bonus tracks. Escape is also probably my 4th or 5th favorite Journey album thanks to the seniors on the basketball bus who played side one, then rewound it & played it again & again. Actually hated Journey because of them until Frontiers came out. Now when I listen to Escape I can't understand why they didn't play side 2 [not that it's better, but it's far from dog doo doo]. Still, give me Frontiers, RoR, Infinity over Escape any day, and some days Trial by Fire. Just one man's opinion. I ordered Frontier & ROR from my one stop and I noticed they are not listing the Perry's yet. They must be overstocked on 1st remasters of them. Click to expand.I wouldn't throw out the Time3 box at all. Not only are there 7 (currently) exclusive rarities on there, the box was remastered by Bob Ludwig and Vic Anesini and sounds great, plus it has an excellent booklet. I don't think they can improve on the original mastering of these albums. I still prefer the original Raised on Radio disc from 1986 to the harsh sounding 1996 remaster, oddly enough both done by Ludwig. It just doesn't make any sense to buy the same tracks over and over just for some vague promise of better sound. Picked up the Steve Perry 'Street Talk' and 'FTLoSM' remasters today, mostly for the strong bonus track selections. The re-issue credits show Dave Donnelly as the remastering culprit, not Steve Perry as previously reported. First impressions: The cymbal work on Street Talk seems way up in the mix, and I missed what I remember as a bigger presence from Larrie Londin's great drum fill to start 'She's Mine.' On 'Strange Medicine' all Perry's S's and T's seem to clip; his vocal was already way up in the mix on the earlier edition. The gorgeous 'I Am' was one of my favorites, but it seems a little harsher to my ears. And the vocal fade-in on 'You Better Wait' (in the intro) seems awfully fast compared to what I remember. Portrait professional activation token keygengurus. The bonus tracks are a nice selection though - better than what are on the main Journey remasters. Heard two more this afternoon: Trial By Fire and Frontiers. Both were OK, in my opinion - better than the Perry solo discs. Frontiers wasn't noticeably different from the most recent remaster. Maybe it renders the keyboards a bit too cold sounding. [I always liked the sound of the keyboards on this record. Pointer Sisters Contact Remastered RareThey were very much of the 80's and utterly unique compared to other Journey albums]. Trial By Fire still sounds fine to me. This one is the most essential since listeners had to fork over big bucks to get the Japanese bonus track. 'I Can See It In Your Eyes' is one of my favorite later-day Journey tunes, and it is the only one from TBF the really rocks like days of old. Pointer Sisters Contact Remastered RarelyClick to expand.I picked up all three Steve Perry re-masters today and a copy of Departure. I look forward to listening to For The Love Of Strange Medicine as I have never heard it before. I also look forward to hearing some of the tracks for the aborted Against The Wall album. Departure was always a favorite of mine. Pointer Sisters Contact Remastered RarityAs the 80's went on, I never bought any of the Journey albums after that except the cd of Captured. I bought the single for Open Arms but I had just about had it as far as Journey went. NOW, of course, I wish that I had gotten into them a bit more and plan to pick up a few of the other remasters and 'discovering' the albums for the first time.
